Ferrari Daytona: Sale of a rare spider supported by Michelotti

Angular at the sight of this spider, hard to guess that this is originally a copy of the legendary Ferrari 365 GTB / 4 Daytona … The bodybuilder Michelotti was indeed particularly creative in this transformation.

It all started in the mid-1970s, when Luigi Chinetti, the American Ferrari importer and owner of the NART racing team, asked Giovanni Michelotti to win him over a series of five searchable cars based on the Daytona,

The third copy of this series, the Spider with the chassis number 14299, which we can see here, began her career as a standard Daytona coupe. He is from the Ferrari factory in May 1971 and wore a gray color and a red leather interior. In 1976, Chinetti asked Michelotti to rebuild the car, with the result that we can see here.

A dark blue and gray two-tone paint replaced the original, while the interior was now orange leather. A hardtop was also designed especially for the car. So circumcised, this spider shows no curves of the Daytona, but is still in balance despite its sharp edges.

The dashboard has also been completely redesigned.

Chinetti offered the car as a gift to his wife, which did not prevent this rare Ferrari presented at many exhibitionssuch as the Turin Show in 1980, the Museum of Le Mans in France in 1982 or the competition of elegance of La Baule in 1984.

Today this Ferrari Daytona NART counts Spider Michelotti only 5,479 miles (Just over 8,800 km) and will be auctioned off on January 17 and 18, 2019 in Arizona at RM Sotheby's.
